Dublin Bus purchased 5 British built CVE Omni Mazda engined low floor minibuses in 1994 as they began to experiment with low floor buses amid concerns their fleet were inaccessible. The "W Class" were delivered in the winter of 1994. The "W Class" included 2 wheelchair spaces following consultations with various groups and committees.
Route 222 was the first service launched by Dublin Bus using the "W Class" on May 28th 1995. It was a City Centre circular service starting at George's Quay (Tara Street Station) and operating via Burgh Quay, O'Connell Street Lower (performing a u-turn at the junction of O'Connell Street Upper and Cathal Brugha Street), O'Connell Street Lower, D'Olier Street, College Street, Nassau Street, Kildare Street, St.Stephen's Green East and South terminating on St.Stephens Green West returning via St.Stephen's Green North, Dawson Street, Suffolk Street, College Green, Westmoreland Street, O'Connell Street Lower (performing a u-turn at the junction of O'Connell Street Upper and Cathal Brugha Street), O'Connell Street Lower, Lower Abbey Street, Beresford Place and Memorial Road and terminating on George's Quay (near Butt Bridge).
Operated by Summerhill Garage, it used two buses with a trip time of 25 minutes. The buses were branded "Omnilink" after the bus type. At Christmas 1995, the service was modified to take in Baggot Street and Waterloo Road running at an hourly interval. The last day of operation was January 10th 1996, the route being pulled due to high operating costs.
